THE POWER OF ELASTIC LIGHTS IN A VANISHED CAGE

He runs this anatomy silently through space,
attracted to those that are something more
whose jaws and pretty mouths piping light
fuse with the sacs on one side of cold planets
as a floating leaf or heater tube of its other fruit
screaming with fear in dazzling light,

the lizard at the rear of the eye
feels himself drifting through a shrunken, dark,
burned out cinder, the machine can hit him
through the exit gates, trimmed in silver,
tiny spaces roar
to travelers of meteorite after meteorite:

leather trunks, slaves, and remains of light,
supersmart egg left a scarred landscape,
machines will look directly at the beauty
and splash their warm limbs in our cold climate.
