BURNT HARBOR

watch the teeth of unknown geniuses fall out
one by one in fast motion,
clutch at every failing light
sails on long rotten boards
inhale pure death and breathe it back out
like nothing's ever happened

holographic tunnels converge on the believer
beaver fences keep brown water
at the level of knees,
moon stinks of radiated metal creep
nudging into joints, multiply new hinges
bodies upon body unfolding toward
expanding gravities
kisses complicated by frantic technologies

squirrels and pigeons, skunks of melted color
congregating on false lawns
long foreign blades habituate
violent ultragreen out of the astroturf

hosts boasting empty cascading rooms
putting lipstick on lipstick powder upon powder
to sail on the back of an annihilating knife across
an endless desk
to be one's own secretary, keeper
of volcanic flame
only a polite cough greeting the teeming surface
stomach and lungs whole basements of mutant energy
