ANNIHILO YODELAYHEEHOO

No music tonight.
I want the flat world
to creep in and smash me
like a bug.
No more fighting with
the pornographic executioner--
I just don't look.

Keep me out of your
social order.  Don't
anoint me with
your bullshit sirens.
Don't drug me like a bookmark
stuck at random
in an untouched book.

You have nothing left
to offer the likes of me.
I eat the sunlight
from the rain.
I set fire to the walks
I take alone.

The zone bereft of echoes
is my empty plane
where chains of flowers leap
from my deathly hands
and the burned wheat stands.

Crumbs that reach
deeper than lungs
drum skins tuned
to the coldest mic

green arc of a frog leaping
through curved glass floors.

Light broken on ragged shores
where the flame in my hand goes dancing
forests hollow in symmetric reflection
glades open to the wolf
who knows the circuit master

throwing five fingered pines
and birches to earth

a birth cried out
in regrown magnolia
kudzu's crawl born in the thicket
born in the vine of life
clawing through my veins.

Saucers carrying slabs of green,
ships piled high with orange snakes,
rainbows held in place
by slats of strange metal,
a heart attacked
by fleece of dispersing sky,
the curve of an empty hand.

Zones bright with toasted chalk,
walls held in place
by soft robotic wind,
the rubbing of crust on crust
beneath cracked dance floors
and kissed umbrellas.

Star clusters,
tents of wheat
and piles of dust,

in the shadow's
faint geometry of giggles
where the wild play of spirits
finds its puppet sheen,
gold glowing
on descriptive wires.

If we were mated
in the painted tags of days
in the slow waves of a smoke December
on a beach of bones
and fiber optic ragweed
we could find our sinews deep

to pull through clay and teeth
ascend a hilltop's
breathing.

Cranked up into
the aching heavens
hatched from a
strobe-shot cloud
sprung with shotguns
and cartoon flowers
from the womb
of uncertain matings
brandishing the certainty of stars,
shadows cross a ping pong table
and the waxed rafters
pulsate with alien hymns

the siren's howl becomes organic heat
cabinets of shining brass bells
afloat around a swampflower
the absurd clock kicked aside
and the hung sheets dry.

I feel the teeth of sharp saws
upon my simulacrum
the grinding of stricken light
dissecting uneven floors
a rain of tongues on sand.

Stricken with straight lines
the blossoms tangle and unfurl
their greatest glory
stung lilacs reeling in sap
concrete exposed to lunar forces
huge curtains of captured clouds.

This hologram's embrace
reels through its hollow phases
dries out the raging sun
and paints the sheets
with films of a cosmic coil
descending down in blue.

Glades of hourglass mirage
the fire light of water's cap
dams of radiant mud
a nest of broken twigs
staring from its naked
glints of wood.

The blades of hard
bronze twilight
cutting through
a supermarket sky
blue rods of speaking iron
the thirst of lips that perish
in the soil
and its womb of oiled rags
skin tags and sighing clay.

CONSERVATIVE

Life tossed me
through its whirlpools,
I was a willing swimmer,
I stood fast in the impossible void.

Cars and empires passed me.
I would not raise my hand
or pop my thumb
to ask for a ride.

Hillsides paved with brighter tar
flew out from under me.
The pines and birches answered.
My empty pockets filled up with light.

Stone fences from gone shepherds
criss crossed each other
half fallen in the depths of
the shadowed woods.

I dug at the outskirts
for renegade boulders
and put them close to their old places
one by one by one
like the water in an iron lung.

If I can ride
the floating strands
of past explosions
over sculpted hills
and make babies in the web
of a new era
keyboards in a waterfall's disguise
may rise to my hands
clothed in rings of arabesque
an iron tongue
lip scorched with eyeliner
one bubbling pool of gold
an hourglass command
received with almond eyes
inherited from green reflection
the water's bright
one floating tool.

Friday, January 13, 2023

Walls of sunlight
slapping rails aside
the cracked shells
of crawling crabs
healed into
the quaking maze.

The teething jungle rims
of poolside expanses
reflected in
a glass reel.

Eyes upon eyes
the pleasant reek of twilight
a bandwidth snapped between
two eternal dancers
time's hanging caw.

Maybe if I sift through clouds
on the way to your broke geography
I can retrieve the fragments
with chains of lips
that have spoken spirals
and sink the ax in clay.

Maybe if you swing the chains
these hooks and I will let go
of green leaves
prairies on stilts
whole acres of rooted hair
and float away.

THE PROMISE OF MAGNOLIA

Sparks from the green remainder
immune to frost
bouncing sun and moon
from shine to shine

gleaming in intricate hills
and folded neighborhoods
gesturing to light between worlds
its far flung lips and curtains

clear eyes among suds of mercury
a saxophone's cry above the drumming waters
grey fallen from the leaves
that carry spring to spring

bright envelopes of veiny life
dauntless beneath a flaking sky
are planned for unwritten lands
and drenched in uncaught diamonds

tight makes of the living rain.

When the world
is finally still
our collapsed lines
of thought
and disintegrated walks
all fraying at the edge
of a reversing sun,
the conversation we saved
and its kiss of ages gone
we'll be an interrupted wave
with two frozen faces.

Light will flick
over the salt
and the smooth
ice where we are
to be corroded stars.

Canyons and fields
empty waiting for the one.
Such mysterious laughter
from a deep lit core.

Plums and accolades
the curved path
of many curving visitations.
Gems and embers
carved out of a frozen waterfall.

My pillow is filled
with the songbirds
of many fallen times.
Lamplight shared
against a night
that proved infinite.

Tar shining on the arc
to someone else's door.

DEITY

Whirlpool of metal leaves
cascading above my
stressed and knotted head,

light from the dark of space
giving my ribs the spice
of moving blood,

brown grass in the hacked sun
blessed by cloven feet
and fleeing white tails,

fount of earthly goddesses
the background of their wings
sighing and heaving
through many forests

crushed diamond of Creator God,
immaterial Lord
of many floating fragments,
lay down my head on clouds of glass
with a blanket's whisper,
tow back my scream to song
and your choir's laughter,
cause my errant seed to see
rearranging Earth.
