The hum goes out over a wide frozen lake
gathering stray and stripped wings
in a net patched with pins
and coiled hair
bottles cooling in the thin patch
fallen on stone edges
ice on glass and sky on skull
the cracking container of a thousand frames
rough doorways of wooden fur
scrubbed and sanded by vertabrae
in rope fingers and racing hands
hillsides sliding through open ribs
the mouth a smashed mailbox
where seeds and twilight alphabets
go shivering

like beads of unseen fire
driving this brick continent
into the sky's graph
with a gear shifting diamond stalactite
the glass eye broken under lid,
gliding bulbs and wet shards.
